January 27, 2008 FWT Homestead Report

Hitting the track for the first time in 2008 at the Homestead Miami Speedway, Team Top Kart is using the Group B schedule to warm up for this season. Team drivers Tyler Thomas, Taylor Miinch, Chris Wehrheim, Robert Stout, Pierce Baldus, and A.J. Codalata were in attendance.

Tyler Thomas is continuing to show his speed every session. With a pair of top three qualifying positions, Thomas was deeply entrenched for the win in both finals. Saturday would see him finishing a solid third place while on Sunday he would be involved in an on track incident while leading the final lap. Tyler will now look towards Moroso for his first win of the season.

In the hottest contested class in North America, Spec Racer, Top Kart had three drivers representing the team. A.J. Codalata would lead the team in qualifying on Saturday with second position; this would be followed up by a solid second place in the prefinal. Chris Wehrheim qualified sixth which was his first time outside of the top five all weekend. Unfortunately Codalata and Wehrheim would run into trouble during the final, but Stout would move through the field to finish eighth. Wehrheim grabbed pole position on Sunday blitzing the field with a .3 second gap to second, but once again had troubles throughout the remainder of the day. Codalata would rebound strongly from his twenty-second starting position for the final to finish in eighth place, which is his best result of the season.

Pierce Baldus continues his progression and learning process in the highly competitive JICA category with the help of teammate Taylor Miinch. After not being in a kart for over two months Miinch would struggled a little on Saturday, but returned to his true form on Sunday with a third place finish in the Prefinal. While running in the top five during the Final Miinch ran into carburetor problems, which would end his race early.
